PRESS RELEASE
AHMADI WORKING IN PUBLIC SECTOR FORCED TO RELOCATE
Dr Shafqatullah, a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, working as a public servant in the district of Sargodha in Pakistan has been forced to relocate to a different town following the continuous persecution inflicted by religious extremists.
The doctor who has been working as Head of the Government Hospital in Sobagha for the last fifteen years has always served his profession with dedication, integrity and with an ethos of service to humanity. His work has always been praised by his superiors.
As a means of ease for his patients the doctor lived in quarters besides the hospital. However anti-Ahmadiyya opponents have been unable to tolerate his growing reputation and thus opposed him publicly and threatened him and his family on a number of occasions. These threats included a threat to kidnap and kill his children. Furthermore, frivolous and wholly unsubstantiated complaints have been lodged against him time and again with the district authorities.
Dr Shafqatullah also has a keen interest in agriculture and in this respect he shares ownership of a farm in the same district. In September this year, under the orders of extremists, his farm was trespassed upon and poison was added to the drinking water tank. As a result eight of the buffalos on the farm died within a few hours. This caused great distress and financial loss.
Following an increase in the hatred and threats against him and his family, Dr Shafqatullah has been left with no choice but to relocate from his residence. This has caused not only him great inconvenience and pain but has also meant that the patients who appreciated greatly his proximity with the hospital have also been left bereft.
END
