Islamist zealots attack on Ahmadiyya in B'desh leaving 11 injured:
[World News] Dhaka, Oct 29 : Religious bigots in Bangladesh attacked on a mosque of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, a minority sect of the Islam, during the weekly Jumma prayer Friday in eastern Brahmanbaria district, leaving at least 11 people, including five women, injured.
Police and witnesses said nearly 200 Islamist zealots, equipped with lethal weapons attacked on the makeshift mosque where the members of the sect gathered to perform weekly prayer. The attackers chanted anti-Ahmadiyya slogan and demanded ban on the sect to exercise Islamic rituals.
An Ahmadiyya leader in Dhaka said the injured included five women of his community. They were admitted to local hospital for treatment.
Pressurised by the Islamists, mostly in the Khaleda Zia's ruling coalition, the government banned all the publications of the sect in February. Since then the Ahmadiyya community faced attack in Chittagong, Patuakhali and several other places in the last couple of months.
The zealots threatened to capture the central mosque of the Ahmadiyya in Dhaka a month ago. But, police foiled the bid.(ANI)
