New Banten police chief inaugurated after lynching
The Jakarta Post

National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo will install Brig. Gen Putut Eko Bayu Seno as Banten’s new police chief in a ceremony on Monday.

Brig. Gen Agus was sacked as Banten’s top cop after three members of an Ahmadiyah congregation in Cikeusik were lynched by local residents on Feb 6. The Banten Police were criticized for failing to protect the Ahmadis.

According to Timur, the replacement was a strategic move based on developments in Cikeusik.

“Even though the investigative team has not completed a comprehensive review of the case, the transfer was done to clear up the problems related to the position,” Tinur said as reported by kompas.com.

Banten Police internal affairs chief Sr. Comr. Adityawarman and Pandeglang Police chief, Sr. Adj.Comr. Fauzy Rasyad. also lost their jobs in the massacre’s fallout.
